Fauna Bio: Lemurs, Squirrels, and Bears Animal Genomics to Treat Human Disease

July 17, 2020

Fauna Bio has developed a novel method to identify genes with large effects by examining hibernating animals with medically-relevant traits. Fauna's multi-omics platform leverages human and animal data to identify genes that are responsible for animal disease protection and are highly similar to human genes. This unique strategy allows the pinpointing of genetic targets with large effects on human diseases. Results include a predicted target that doubles cell survival following a simulated heart attack, and novel targets related to obesity being pursued in collaboration with Novo Nordisk.
